As photographers, we get caught up in the hustle of the shoot. The chase for light, the next frame, the pressure to bring something back that feels worth the miles. But sometimes in that pace, we forget to slow down. To really see what’s unfolding around us.
Packing along a lunch or, in this case, a coffee break changes the rhythm. It makes you pause long enough to notice the shape of a cloud, the way a horse flicks an ear, or the sound of hooves carrying across an empty pasture.
Maybe it’s the smell of coffee drifting from the tailgate that draws the ponies over, curious about what all the fuss is at the truck. Maybe it’s just coincidence. Either way, the result is the same — a moment where the lens doesn’t need to work so hard. The picture comes to you.
It’s these small pauses, the kind that keep you in the moment, that often bring the strongest photographs. Out here, my new go-to has been Reared Up Coffee Co. and their Cowboy Blend. Strong, smooth, and true to its name — just right for the field.
Coffee, ponies, a wide sky overhead. That’s enough.
